Lightning Bugs

Can you believe I'd never seen them before? But last night we were driving home and the fields were just shimmering with them. We pulled over to the side of the road to watch.

I have found something Calvin is afraid of since we've moved here. He doesn't like bugs. So he wasn't too happy when we rolled down the window to see them better and several of them came near the car. But I was entranced.

By the time we got home is was dark and there were only a few in the backyard. But I'm hoping we see more tonight.

Wow, I can't believe you've never seen lightening bugs. We make a sport out of catching 'em at our house. LOL. So I'm safe to assume you're children have never brought in a dozen or so in a miracle whip jar and begged to use them as a night light. Then in morning you find an empty jar where the bugs have all crawled out of the breathing holes in the lid. LOL.

I can't wait to get your kids and Tanner together for a play date. We'll have to meet halfway at a park. That will be fun. Love that you're a new hoosier. ;)

That field was just amazing. I think it needs to be a scene in someone's book. :)

Isn't it awesome, Jen? As another So Cal girl I totally get why you were entranced! When I moved to DC in 2000 I'd never been out of the OC to live. I fell in love with the Lightnin (that's more what it sounds like here) bugs.

When I went home when my Grandpa was dying it was summer and I was so bummed that I couldn't enjoy them. I even wrote a short post why I didn't like So Cal anymore and my main reason? No Lightnin Bugs!

Mich is right, should be a scene in a book! Wish I could have seen the field!

Wow, that was perhaps the worst writing EVER in my last comment. Wow! It's so time for bed. :)

Sadder Still -

I've never even seen a photo of a lightning bug until now. I've heard of them, but hmmm...

Fascinating.

I grew up in Arkansas where lightening bugs were everywhere. Aren't they awesome!

Awww, I miss those. We don't have them where we live. Some of my fondest childhood memories include these little gems. I hope Calvin will come to like them. :-)
