We're Here

The kids and I are spending Spring Break with Michelle and her family. This should be an adventure. I’ve rarely been outside of California and Arizona. They live in Indiana. Where they get snow. And it’s cold.

So we’re flying in and I have to laugh. As gray and brown and overcast as it is, it could almost be San Bernardino, California in the summer when I was growing up. The grasses on the foothills would be brown and dead from the heat and the smog hung over and obscured the mountains. Other than the temperatures, the scenes were eerily similar.

One thing I noticed is that the raindrops seem smaller here. Twice we’ve walked outside, I’ve noticed the ground was wet, but I couldn’t feel any rain. I’m wondering if all the dust in the desert air makes the raindrops bigger.

The other thing is how much more hydrated my skin feels. My hands were dry and flaky when I was on the plane and all ready they are feeling softer. So, beauty tip for the day: move somewhere where it rains. Or there’s actual moisture in the air. So it doesn’t get sucked out of your skin.

When we got to Michelle’s house there were still patches of snow on the ground. My kids have never seen snow, so first thing out of the car they make a beeline for the nearest patch. Sissy just touches it (“Wow! It’s cold!”) but Calvin has to go jump in it (“It feels like ice!”). He walks in snow up to his ankles from the car to the house, big grin on his face.

It’s raining tonight, so I don’t know if there’ll be any snow left by morning for them to play in.

More updates tomorrow.

And you might want to check out Michelle’s blog to get her version of events.

So this means I have to write a blog post AND finish the Relief story.

Someone pray for me.

How fun! I remember my first time in snow (it was only 8 years ago) and the kids sound right on target with my experiences.

Any chance you'll get to see Sabrina while you're there?

How interesting that Colleen and her bunch come from Indiana out here to escape the cold and you fly into it. :)

Good luck with them Michelle!

I'm homesick! Bring back some Hoosier sentiment with you, K? And give Michelle a big hug. You can take the girl out of Indiana but you can't take the Hoosier out of the girl. Sigh.
Abundant blessings,
Jenny Cary

Can't wait to connect at some point. ;) I'm looking forward to it! Wish your kids could have been here two weeks ago. The snow would have amazed them.

I was thinking the other day you're going to see our Indiana at it's worst time. All muddy and brown. Glad you're at least enjoying the moisture.

This is why I've been tellin' you people that I love humidity! It makes my skin feel so good and my curly hair look good. Think of all the money you save on lotion.

Okay, I so haven't had the luck with the humidity and my skin, Heather. I still look like, hmm, I'm getting older. First sign was when I discovered that foundation really does settle into fine lines on your face. :) And it's definitely HUMID down here. Although I will say that it does make my hair curly, curly as opposed to somewhat wavy like when I'm at home in CA.

Anywho, Jenn you guys have fun! I think the first time I saw snow it was at Pine Summit in Big Bear. Did you ever go there growing up? Loved it there. Anyway I think it was pretty patchy the first time. But still SO exciting for us OC'ers. They make more snow up there than what actually falls of course. :)

Elaina, yeah, we went up there often. It's where I learned to ski and the only other place I've seen snow.
